Nevaeh was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma in October 2011. Her tumor was located on her brain stem and required an 8 hour operation to remove it. After her surgery she had to lear to walk and talk again while getting her first rounds of intense chemotherapy. After 4 months of chemo we moved to Jacksonville, FL for 8 weeks for Nevaeh to undergo 30 rounds of proton beam radiation. Throughout treatment and upon returning from Florida, Nevaeh’s scans continued to show no evidence of disease. We were very optimistic and excited for her to get back to being a kid.

On July 9th, 2012 we got news that absolutely crushed us. Nevaeh’s cancer had returned and spread down her spine. We had to make a decision to do treatment that itself could have killed her. Non of the oncologists or radiation oncologists had ever re-radiated a patient so soon after their first round. She was 4 months removed and they wanted to wait at least a year. Our doctors told us it was the best chance for cure.

We made the decision to radiate her brain and spine aggressively. it was gut wrenching to make that decision. We trusted in God and our doctors. Nevaeh endured 30 rounds of full brain and spine radiation in July and August of 2012. In September of 2012, her scans were clear of disease. She received 6 months of chemo and finished that in March of 2013.

She has had clear scans since and God willing her scans on September 11th, 2014 will be clear and she will be 2 years with no evidence of the disease.
